6 Things You Can Do
Has the iconic old recliner served your family well? If it’s now time to get rid of it or replace it, you need to get it out of your house. Read on to learn some things you can do with an old recliner—including how you can make some money.
What to Do with an Old Recliner
- Donate it to a good cause. There are likely many places in your area that will take your old furniture, your recliner included For example, you might find a shelter or charitable organization to donate it to if it’s in good condition enough!
- Ask a furniture store. Are you replacing your recliner? If so, the furniture store delivering your new one might be willing to take your old one. Ask them if they have that option when you schedule the delivery.
- Sell it. If your recliner is reasonably clean and in good condition, you could sell it and make a small profit. Be sure to disclose any stains or imperfections that may have to avoid an unhappy customer who might want back out of the sale once these flaws are revealed in person.
- Try giving it away for free. If you live by a college campus, you might be able to find some college kids looking for free furniture. You can also try placing it on your curb with a “free” sign, as long as you only leave it out for a few days and then have a backup plan ready.
- See if your waste management has a pickup day. Many waste management companies offer regularly scheduled pickups for large items like furniture. It’s nice to have this option but remember that means it’s going to the landfill and won’t be taken apart for recycling.
