It’s Sweater Weather!

Time to Declutter Your Fall Wardrobe

A change of season means a change of wardrobe. Now that temperatures are cooling down, sweaters are coming out! The seasonal shift is a great time for going through your clothes and getting rid of what you no longer wear. Here are some fall wardrobe decluttering tips along with suggestions on what to do with an empty dresser.

Fall Wardrobe Decluttering

Decluttering your closet helps you prep for a new season with a fresh perspective. But overflowing closets and drawers can get overwhelming and cause you to just shove everything back. We’re here to help you navigate your fall wardrobe cleanout with ease and efficiency.

  1. Assess the situation. While it may seem like a lot, one of the best ways to declutter is to pull everything out. It’s easy to glance in a closet or drawer and shut it, but a bed full of clothes gives you a clear view of your current wardrobe. It also helps to group similar items together and only put back what you’re going to keep.
  2. Evaluate your needs. While you’re deciding what goes back, consider your lifestyle and the season to better organize the space. Cooler weather means warmer clothes should be front and center. If you’re starting a new job, group those outfit pieces in an accessible place. Leave out anything you haven’t worn in over a year that no longer serves your needs.
  3. Sort. Group items by what you love, wear often, and want to keep. These items should still be in good condition and fit well. Everything else should go into a pile to repair (something you love but needs alterations), sell (items with high resale value), donate (still in good condition, but no longer your style), or discard (damaged items beyond repair).
  4. Organize. A neat wardrobe not only makes it easier to choose an outfit, but it makes future decluttering sessions less stressful as well. Store your spring and summer stuff in bins on higher shelves to make fall and winter clothes easier to get to. Arrange clothing by type and color for a more streamlined closet. Use baskets and racks to keep accessories and shoes tidy.
  5. Maintain. Help keep your wardrobe decluttered by regularly reassessing each season. Any time you add something new, consider replacing something you no longer wear.

Decluttering not only helps to keep your space organized, but it’s also an opportunity to make sure your wardrobe still works for you. Once you’ve refreshed the space you may find you have a whole set of empty drawers you don’t even need anymore. Instead of filling it with more stuff, consider donating the empty furniture too.
