And What to do With all that Junk

shed removal

With the weather warming up, it’s time to start thinking about gardening, outdoor activities, and spring cleaning. If you have a shed, it probably contains a lot of those gardening tools and outdoor equipment. But is it all in shape for another season? Put your shed on your spring cleaning list with these helpful tips. If you find a lot of what’s stored isn’t worth saving, including the structure itself, contact JDog Junk Removal & Hauling for a pickup and shed removal.

Cleaning Out the Shed

Taking on any large cleanout task is simpler with a plan of attack. It may seem like a chore, but it could save you more trouble in the future. Especially if you have an overstuffed shed with lots of hiding places for rodents. Not only does cleaning out the space give you an opportunity to get rid of what you don’t want and organize what you do, but it helps prevent pests.

  1. Remove everything. It may be easier said than done, but getting everything out makes it easier to see what you have, and even find things you forgot about. If it makes it less daunting, you can plan to get rid of one thing every day leading up to your shed cleanout. But when it comes time for organizing the space, it’s best to start with a clean slate.
  2. Sort. Now that all the items are out in the lawn, it’s easier to sort them into different categories. Start with things you want to keep, sell, donate, or discard. From your keep pile, you can organize by type, like tools, sport equipment, decor, etc. Sorting now will help with restocking later.
  3. Assess. Before you put everything back in the shed, take a good look around. Are there any areas that need repair? Is there mold that needs to be remediated? Is the whole shed falling apart? Maybe you’ve decided to get rid of most of the items and now you don’t need the shed anymore. Consider whether you’re going to keep it as a storage facility, renovate the space, or get rid of it altogether.
  4. Clean. If the shed stays, it probably needs a good cleaning. Clear out the dust and cobwebs first. Then wash down windows, fixtures, shelves, and floor.
  5. Design. Depending on how much is going back in, you may need a new organizational plan. Maybe you need more shelves, hooks, or open space for larger equipment. Create a layout that works to help keep the space tidy.
  6. Restock. With a new design in place and your items preorganized, this should be the easy part! Keeping it clean should be easier too, especially if you regularly declutter.

Once your shed is clean and organized, you’ll be able to find those garden tools, outdoor toys, and spring decor to celebrate the warmer season ahead.
